Jacob Boehme, supported by CreateSA

CreateSA provided funding to support the international tour of Guuranda X, a Narungga‑led cultural exchange performance project created by Narungga and Kaurna artist Jacob Boehme, in collaboration with Narungga Elders and artists.

In 2026, Guuranda X toured Chennai, India (17–24 March 2026) and Findhorn, Scotland (11–31 May 2026) as an immersive adaptation of Boehme’s mainstage work. Supported by CreateSA, the project prioritised legacy and sustainability, with a small Narungga team collaborating with local performers in each location to co‑create performances. The project shared songlines through language, dance and ceremony, delivered with cultural care.

The project honours Country and community by bringing Narungga creation stories to international audiences, while modelling environmentally conscious touring grounded in First Nations cultural values.

Why this matters

Guuranda X demonstrates how First Nations cultural exchange can be led on First Nations terms, centring ceremony, shared authorship and sustainable practice. The project strengthens international understanding while positioning South Australia as a place where First Nations artists are developing new global models for cultural exchange.

For Narungga people, sharing our stories is a responsibility given by our Old People. To see young people in India learning our language and singing our creation stories is something we never imagined. It shows our culture is strong, and it shows the respect between our communities.
